We walked past this bakery and were attracted by the display window, especially a nicely looking loaf priced at 15 lira. The owner, who spoke a little English, was friendly and helpful. We bought three baked goods (classic small ones, like Börek), and in the end, the owner typed in the total: €16!!! Unfortunately, my reflexes weren’t quick enough, having seen the price in Turkish lira and not being very familiar yet… A rip-off. In any other bakery, I would have paid at most €2.50 for the same products.

Biz iki İtalyan, birkaç haftadır Türkiye’de tatildeyiz. Sevimli bir sahibi var, İtalyanlar ile Türklerin aynı yüze sahip olduğunu söylüyor. İki küçük börek ve bir gözleme aldık… fiyat 775 liradan fazlaydı, neredeyse Paris ya da Viyana merkezindeki gibi… İtalyanlar ve Türkler aynı yüze sahip olabilir, ama farklı bir kalpleri var. Başka fırınlarda ise aynı şeyleri almak için 150 liradan fazla ödemedik. We are two Italians on holiday in Turkey for several weeks. We bought two small börek and one gözleme… the price was more than 775 lira, almost like in the center of Paris or Vienna… Italians and Turks may have the same face, but they have a different heart. In other bakeries, however, we didn’t spend more than 150 lira for the same things.
